Blog 7 Mary wigman

     Hi Guys!

Today I will tell you about a person I admire in the field of dance.

Mary Wigman

Mary wigman is a dancer german, main pioneer of expressionism dance, she was born in Hannover November 13, 1886  and died in Berlin, September 19, 1973.

For her, dance was an expression of the individual's interior, with special emphasis on expressiveness versus form. Thus, she attached special importance to gestures, often linked to improvisation, as well as the use of masks to accentuate the expressiveness of the face. Her movements were free, spontaneous, trying new ways of moving around the stage, dragging or sliding, or moving parts of the body in a static attitude, as in oriental dance.

She installed a break dance for her time, it was an avant-garde dance.

I work with important figures of the time such as Rudolf von Laban (pioneer of modern dance) and Dalcroze (pioneer of rhythm).

Some of his works are Witch Dance I (1914), Scream (1923), The Evening Dances (1924), Space Chants (1926), Visions (1928), L'Histoire du Soldat (1929), Das Totenmal (1930), Orpheus and Eurydice (1947), Catulli Carmina (1955), Le Sacre du Printemps (1957) and Alkestis (1958).

The most famous is the witch dance

I like mary wigman because she was a breakthrough woman, intelligent and determined in her time, she raised interesting themes in dance, not only the dance itself, there was also artistic visual content in the dance ,  she proposed dance as independent without needing music.
Many of his works and movement  have similarities with the current dance, the  "contemporary dance", which at that time did not yet have a name nor was it a technique as such.
